FAPESP launches call for the establishment of new RIDCs

Each selected RIDC will receive annual funding of up to BRL 8 million for up to 11 years; the centers will operate in the areas of Exact and Earth Sciences and Engineering.

FAPESP announces the launch of a call for proposals for the establishment of new Research, Innovation, and Dissemination Centers (RIDCs) in the areas of Exact and Earth Sciences and Engineering. The selected centers will receive annual funding of up to BRL 8 million for a period of five years, with the possibility of renewal for a maximum period of 11 years.

Periodic evaluations will be conducted throughout the existence of each center to determine its continuity. FAPESP has BRL 200 million available to invest in the RIDC Program.

The fundamental or applied research carried out by RIDCs needs to be bold, of international excellence in topics relevant to their field of knowledge, and contribute to innovation through knowledge transfer. The development of educational activities and knowledge dissemination is also among the responsibilities of the centers.

“The RIDC Program, due to its objectives, has become one of FAPESP’s most impactful programs,” says scientific director Marcio de Castro. “Because it is long-term, it allows the continuous advancement of research in relevant areas, always with the concern of disseminating knowledge.”

In the first call for proposals for the RIDC Program, in 2000, 11 centers were selected, and in the second, in 2011, 17 were created or renewed.

In 2021, FAPESP planned the launch of six calls for proposals, distinguished by area of knowledge, for the creation of new RIDCs. This is the fifth call, focusing on Exact and Earth Sciences and Engineering. In the other four editions, the following areas were covered: Health, Biological, Agronomy, and Veterinary Sciences (2021); Humanities and Social Sciences, Architecture and Urbanism, Economics and Administration (2022); Exact and Earth Sciences and Engineering (2023); Health, Biological, Agronomy, and Veterinary Sciences (2024).

In this call, topics that continue the work of existing RIDCs or proposals from researchers responsible for centers that participated in more than one call will not be accepted.

The period for submitting pre-proposals is from January 5 to 27, 2026.

The call for proposals is published at fapesp.br/17875.
